Do You Feel Guilty Relaxing?

Uncategorized
People who don't value leisure time are more prone to stress and mental health issues In this busy, modern culture, there can be a lot of pressure to be on the go, doing something “productive.” This societal attitude can make us feel as though we’re wasting time whenever we engage in activities such as watching TV shows (or sports), having whimsical conversations with friends or family, or simply spending time outdoors relaxing. I’ve felt this myself when doing something leisurely, which used to make me feel rather guilty. Although I knew it wasn’t particularly healthy to work every second from the time I hop out of bed in the morning to the time that I go to sleep at night, I’d still have this nagging feeling that I should be busier, doing more work-related activities, rather than “...

Mordy Quotes….

You will always have more of what you complain about, and more of what you appreciate. The principle behind this is, whatever you focus on increases. I know you want more, but be grateful for the ones you have. Learn to appreciate the things you have before it becomes what you had. Don't wait to have everything you desire before you become grateful for what you have, rather be grateful for what you have so you can have everything you desire. Gratitude always leads to abundance, and ingratitude leads to scarcity. Do a gratitude list weekly or monthly or semi-monthly. On New Year's Eve, I always do a ceremony that includes everything I want and or need for the coming year. Sometimes it takes me months to make the list, it's not time-consuming really, it is being mindful of ...

How Negative Emotions Turn Into Pain

Uncategorized, Viable Options Blog
For many years I have used a book called Feelings Buried Alive Never Die by Karol Truman. This book is written by a family counselor who for many years explored unresolved feelings with health challenges. She spent her entire career researching and finding evidence of these unresolved feelings causing damage to the body. I myself used her blood to resolve my own issues and I use it almost everyday for either myself or a friend or a client. This article appeared and although it doesn't delve too deeply into all the challenges it does hit upon the fact that you can create a health challenge by carrying around unresolved anger, guilt, shame etc. Enjoy the article and you can always order the book from Amazon ..... it is an excellent read with many outstanding stories, mantras and bibl...

The Wisdom of Nature

Uncategorized, Viable Options Blog
“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” —John Muir Ah, nature. It’s a balm for the spirit and an education for the soul. It has nurtured a wealth of poetry and literature, inspired some of the most treasured works of art, and moved musicians to create soul-stirring compositions. Take Beethoven, for example, who is said to have developed a love of nature in his youth, enjoying strolls along the Rhine River with his father. Despite losing his mother at a young age, having a father who was an alcoholic, and starting to lose his hearing at the age of 28, Beethoven created some of the most beautiful music the world has ever known—with nature often acting as his inspiration. Nature spoke, and Beethoven listened, translating what he heard into music. “N...

What We Convince Ourselves Of…Then We Are Frustrated..

Uncategorized, Viable Options Blog
We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough, and we'll be more content when they are. After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our partner gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice holiday, when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway .A quote comes from Alfred D. Souza. He said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was...

Fall Shows Us the Beauty of Letting Go

Uncategorized, Viable Options Blog
Fall signals the change from summer to winter. Long summer days finally cool and leaves offer vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds before they fall from the trees. It’s the time when we go from the relaxed, carefree attitudes of summer to the more serious and introspective energies of fall. In the five elements theory of Eastern medicine, fall represents metal. You can think of that in terms of the qualities of this element. It is rigid and refined. This season governs organization, setting limits, and protecting boundaries. In fall, we move from the external expansive nature of summer to the internal contractive energies of autumn. It’s a good idea to finish up any projects you started in spring or summer and enjoy the results of all your hard work. It’s also a good time to begin proj...

Let’s Delve a Bit Deeper into the Inner Workings of our Colon.

Uncategorized
A couple of weeks ago I picked up my dog from the groomer only to find out that the owner after years of pain had to have her entire large intestine removed. Upon further probing the daughter explained that she was shocked that wehad two intestines, a large and a small….even more earth-shattering was when I replied….yes you have a large colonand a small colon, to which she replied….holy cow we have 4.I have thought long and hard on this and it has amazed me over the last 25 years how ill-informed we are as a societyas to the inner workings of our body and what bodily parts we actually have. Believe me, I could fill volumes on myclient’s questions in reference to their bodies.Normalcy is a major question. All of our lives we are taught if you have one bowel movement a day, a week, everyo...

The Colon and The Brain

Uncategorized, Viable Options Blog
The colon is also called the large intestine. The ileum (last part of the small intestine) connects to the cecum (first part of the colon) in the lower right abdomen. The rest of the colon is divided into four parts: • The ascending colon travels up the right side of the abdomen.• The transverse colon runs across the abdomen.• The descending colon travels down the left abdomen.• The sigmoid colon is a short curving of the colon, just before the rectum. The colon removes water, salt, and some nutrients forming stool. Muscles line the colon's walls, squeezing its contents along. Billions of bacteria coat the colon and its contents, living in a healthy balance with the body. Colon Conditions Colitis: Inflammation of the colon. Time In Nature

"If you have to start with opening a window....that's OK." by Dr. Robert Zarr TEN MINUTES: of gardening or a weekly visit to a public garden can alleviate depression TWENTY MINUTES: spent hiking among trees, bird-watching or pursuing other activities in nature reduces cortisol, the stress hormone. THIRTY MINUTES: of sitting or walking in a park setting can lower blood pressure and heart rate. FORTY-FIVE MINUTES: or more of hiking in the mountains results in less fatigue and higher alertness than the same amount of time spent indoors on a treadmill. SIXTY MINUTES: spent interacting with nature, such as walking in urban parks or on tree-lined streets, can boost memory and attention span by 20%

Food as Medicine:

Uncategorized
Our toxic diet is feeding diseases that can't be cured with drugs that never resolve the underlying problem. Dr. Robert Lustig, a pediatric endocrinologist and professor emeritus at the University of California–San Francisco, has written a number of excellent books about health. His latest, “Metabolical: The Lure and the Lies of Processed Food, Nutrition, and Modern Medicine,” goes deep into the details of how changes in our food supply have damaged our metabolic health. The title of his book, “Metabolical,” is actually a portmanteau of the words “metabolic” and “diabolical,” which captures nicely the essence of his message. “I wrote it because nothing else has worked,” Lustig said. “Part of the problem is, this is such a complicated issue.” Lustig says with so many stakeholder...
